  • DORTHEA DIX was born April 4th 1802
  • DOROTHEA opened her first "little dame school house in 1816 at age 15
  • Shortly following the attack on Fort Sumter in April 1861, 59-year-old DOROTHEA DIX offered her services to the Union Army and was appointed the Superintendent of feamale nurses in June. She would work without compensation throughout the war.
  • DORTHEA DIX died July 17th 1887

  • Every year the 4th graders at my school get to go to the disability workshop to learn what it's like to have disibilities So they get to look at some of the thins DOROTHEA DIX may have used to help her students.
